assignment 4 ; independent research

i am going to Undertake independent research into PEROU!

  • Create a ‘slideshare account’ you do this at http://www.slideshare.net/
  • Import at least one slideshow that you like and embed it into your blog
  • Make a slide show of your featured artists work – put it in chronological order – add facts and details and lots of your own opinion and analysis then embed it into your blog
  • Create a ‘talking heads’ vox pop using video techniques – you must be discussing the work of the artist to show off what you have
These are a group of photo's by Perou!
All the models in the photo's are in the center of the photo screen.
The background isn't too bright or distracting so your attention is on the model. They are all different even tho they are classed as portrait on his website. Perou makes some of his models look at you the viewer to create like the model is looking directly at you, also when the model is looking plain at the viewer it also makes them look pure and innocent.
On the photo's where the models aren't looking at you but looking somewhere into the distance creates a mood of longing to be somewhere else or the model's concentration is on something else.

Perou's photo's can give off an aggressive and powerful as this photograph shows, the model is represented with a look to get people to look at her and think sexy. When you think of an powerful and sexy women you think independence so this women is giving a face to Independence.

This women is looking away from the camera, looking mysterious. The lighting has capturing her body especially her long legs, capturing a sexual and provocative look. When the photo was taken stripes were in fashion so this is to populate the fashion and make it updated to today.
These pair of photo's are of the same model and the look Perou is getting the viewer to think, is humorous. His facial expressions defiantly convey humor. It works better because the model is the same man it makes it funnier because one of the looks is trying to be serious and if thats his serious face his out on funny face will be funny as well.

Assignment 3 My interpretation of Vee Speers : Birthday Party

For my interpretation of Vee Speers :Birthday party: my model was my friend, Chloe Stockwell. These photo's were taken in-front of a plain wall like the birthday party collection, i know this because i have analysed her work. Her photo's are also in an off white colour whereas mine are in colour, they looked better and i preferred them in colour compared to the black and white version. I have cropped my photo's because my background is in a P.E room and there were pipes where i positioned my model so i cropped them out. My model is directly in the middle of the screen because Vee Speers places her models in the middle of the screen. Chloe is wearing bright colours that stand out because it draws your eyes to her more than it would if she were to wear boring and plain clothes. My opinion of my interpretation is that if i were to be more careful to little details then it would change the whole look on the images. I don't think they are awful which is good and if you were to compare Vee Speers work to mine you would see the differences but you could also see where i tried/did interpret.

Asignment 3: Learning how to read a photograph

Post 1; COMPOSITION
i found this website really helpful when learning about composition.
http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2012/04/12/10-rules-of-photo-composition-and-why-they-work/

The website helped me because it taught me what was needed to take a good photo with composition in mind!
This photo by John Hedgecoe, uses composition by using the rule of thirds and making it not a complex photo instead its quite simple. The focal point also fills the frame and isn't too crowded there is space for the picture to move.
There is not a lot going on in the background which makes it easier to focus on the main image.

Post 2; Focal Point
 http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2013/07/25/using-focal-points-in-photography-how-to-get-perfect-composition-every-time-you-shoot/
This website was helpful because it explains the key issues needed to take a photograph with focal point in mind!
This photo has Leonardo DiCaprio the main aspect of this picture and he is the focal point. When you look at this the first thing you see is him and the background doesn't grab your attention only he does.  Annie Leibovitz has decided that she wants her focal point to be in the main center of the frame, this was her only sensible choice because she only has the viewer looking at one thing.

Post 3; Lighting
http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Light-in-Photography
This website helped me decide how the lighting is involved in my photographs.
John hedgecoe's photo uses lighting effectively! His focal point is off centered and he glazing out of the window this highlights that he doesn't want to be inside and longing to go outside, just like a child! The light is also reflects on his face showing the environment is darker and gloomy rather compared to outside.

Post 4; Depth of field
 http://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-get-shallow-depth-of-field-in-your-digital-photos
The website helped me to understand the rules of taking photo's when wanting the photo to be in depth of field. The blurred out grass draws your attention to him, because he is placed to the far right there is alot of the background showing depth of field by him being in focus.

FIRST ANALYSIS

Vee Speers is an Australian photographer based in Paris. After studying at the Queensland College of Art, Speers worked as a stills photographer for the ABC television. Since moving to France in the early 90’s, Speers has worked in fashion, photojournalism and is today an established fine-art photographer. Her work has appeared in many prestigious publications, and has been exhibited in London, Paris, Japan, Italy, Tunisia and South America, as well as in her native country. Vee Speers photo's are taken to amuse or to get to the viewer thinking. In the birthday party collection she has stripped away the stereotypes of children, there is no innocence of them. The children have a sense of danger from the social expectations of a birthday party smile, the paranoia of society changing who we are. These pictures portrait imagination of a child can be whatever they want to be. The faces are looking directly at the camera to create a dramatic tension between the picture and the viewer also making the child the focal point. The children are placed in front of the same white wall even though they look directly at the camera it shows and tells to the viewer little about themselves. The only instruction Vee Speers give to the children is not to smile, them not smiling hints that they don't really want to have their photo taken. I would like to learn how to create this effect when taking photo's. I like her birthday party collection because of the innocence and confusion behind the face of the children, its makes me wanting to know and see more.
